The VCCL defeated the VSDCA in our annual Representative Game hosted by the Noble Park Cricket Club.
The players were provided with outstanding conditions at the Pat Wright Senior Oval in Noble Park , with VSDCA Captain Rick Damiano winning the toss and deciding to bat.
Late changes to the VSDCA side with the withdrawal of Liam Murphy, Alex Jones and Aaron Smillie, replaced by Glen Parker (Malvern) and Nilo Perera (Noble Park).
The VSDCA was off to steady start with Damiano and Speake hitting the ball nicely before the loss of our first wicket at 45. From then we struggled to build a substantial partnership and finished with 7/209 off our 50 overs. The backbone of the innings was a great knock by Glen Parker who scored a very impressive 74. He was supported by Ben Speake 37, Rick Damiano 23 and Travis Nightingale 20 no.
The VCCL adopted their usual aggressive approach when batting reaching 50 after a few overs, and appeared to be coasting to a comfortable victory, however with some tight bowling and shrewd captaincy the VSDCA fought back taking some important wickets and the game tightened up.
The VCCL finally reached 8/210 in the 45th over to win the game.
Leigh Brennan 3/53, James Grubb 3/30 and Kasun Adikari 2/28 shared the bowling honours.
Thank you to the players for making themselves available to play in this game, Umpire Patrick Mathews and Craig Ortland, Geoff Richardson and the members from the Noble Park Cricket Club for their wonderful hosting of the game.
Good luck to the VCCL in the National Country League Championships in Rockhampton, Queensland.
