VSDCA Under 21 v Crusaders (Day 3)

DAY 3

 

Persistent rain on Sunday morning delayed the start of play on day 3, with play commencing at 12.30 pm.

 

In excellent batting conditions, the VSDCA scored heavily declaring their 2nd innings closed at 7/357. George Drissell (Balwyn) batted superbly making a brilliant 122 (off 135 balls) and he was supported by Alex Pannell 78, Daniel McKenzie 52 and Marcus Lust 49 (Taylors Lakes).

 

The Crusaders needed 259 runs off 43 overs to win the game and the VSDCA 10 wickets.

 

When stumps were drawn, the Crusaders in their 2nd innings was 5/179. Jarryd Cameron (Bayswater) was the best of the bowlers taking 3/31.

 

Thanks to all the players who participated in the game, Ian Wyatt (VSDCA Umpire), Paul Bain (Team Manager), Gerry Cameron (Scorer) and to the Kingston Hawthorn Cricket Club for their outstanding hosting of the game.   

 

DAY 2

 

The Crusaders resumed batting on Day 2, and on a flat and true pitch, was finally dismissed for 306. Ten players bowled for the VSDCA side and the bowling honours were shared.

 

With 26 overs to face to conclude play on Day 2, the VSDCA went on the attack and when stumps were drawn, the VSDCA was 1/121.

 

Marcus Just (Taylors Lakes) made 49, with Alex Pannell (Ivanhoe) 55 no and George Drissell (Balwyn) 15 no.

 

The VSDCA has an overall lead of 22 with one day remaining.

 

Play continues on Day 3 (January 5) at 10.00 am.

 

DAY 1

 

VSDCA Captain Luke Saultry won the toss and had no hesitation in deciding to bat in fantastic conditions provided at Walter Galt Reserve.

 

The VSDCA side made 207, being dismissed in the 69th over with Daniel McKenzie from Altona top scoring with a well complied 60.

 

In reply, the Crusaders had to face 21 overs, and at stumps they were 1/38.

 

Play continues on Day 2 (January 4) at 10.00 am.
